Andre Ward could not resist a cheeky dig at Carl Froch while commentating on Top Rank’s US show on Tuesday night.

The ‘Son of God’ beat the ‘Cobra’ when they met back in 2011, and Froch has since spoken on multiple occasions downplaying his old rival’s achievements.
During Mikaela Mayer’s win against overmatched foe Helen Joseph, Ward took the chance to exact some revenge on Froch.
He said: “Your opponent being slower than you thought, that’s a real thing.
“I remember fighting Carl Froch in the final of the Super Six.
“The first two or three punches he threw, I was shocked. I had to adjust to how slow he was.
“So that’s a thing, and it can take a couple of rounds to adjust to a fighter that’s slower than you thought.”
This is Ward’s latest jibe at Froch, with the pair unable to let things be almost nine years after meeting.
The American recently also branded the Brit an ‘overachiever’ as he said on Ringside Toe2Toe: “I might give him some ammunition. I’mma give him something to talk about over the next couple of weeks.
“The thing about Carl Froch, and I always respected about him, is his competitiveness, because he’s not really athletic.
“He’s an overachiever. You look at him and just the way he fights, there’s nothing that jumps out at you that says, ‘Wow, that’s a great fighter.’
“But his work ethic, his attention to detail. I know he used to keep binders full of his every workout that he did.
“He was very tedious about his preparation.”
“He was tough. He could take a shot. So he had other qualities that were intangible that you couldn’t really see.
“I think he was an overachiever. But I think he got hit too much.
“He took too much punishment. A lot of his big fights could have easily have gone the other way, even the fight with Jermain Taylor.
“If Jermain Taylor didn’t fade and was in better shape, he would have never lost that fight. I think he’s up there, but I don’t think he’s the top dog, not at all.”
In a surprise reply, Froch decided not to rise to the bait.
When asked about the comments a few weeks back, he replied: “Absolutely spot on to be honest, that was really good.
“Overachiever? Maybe. I was never gonna turn professional, I turned professional and won four world titles if you count the WBA ‘regular’ belt.
“Many big fights are close. World champions who defend their world titles, it’s never always one-sided.
“Even Floyd Mayweather came close to getting beat, we all have bad nights and we all have close fights, but a win’s a win, a loss is a loss.
“Andre Ward’s a top fighter and the opinion of what he said there, I can’t really argue with it to be honest.
“This is coming from a guy who beat me quite conclusively on points. That’s totally fair enough.”
It remains to be seen if Froch will react differently this time around.
Carl Froch has bit back at Andre Ward after the American taunted him from London last week.
The former pound-for-pound king came over to the UK to be part of US broadcaster ESPN’s coverage of Vasyl Lomachenko’s victory over Luke Campbell and had some words for the absent Froch during his stay.
Following on from their bitter trash talk exchanged on social media earlier this year, Ward joked that he was ‘looking’ for the Brit on and discussed his desire to have a chat with him in several interviews.
However, Froch has now replied by writing in a column for Sky Sports: “I saw one little clip that my brother sent me while I was sunbathing next to the pool.
“I think he just said we had been exchanging banter back and forth on Twitter? ‘Let’s get together, let’s have a chat,’ I don’t know what he was saying?
“I’m just honest about what I see and I think his style is borderline cheating. Listen, he beat me fair and square, let’s get that straight, but it was one of the worst fights I’ve been involved in.”

In 2011, ‘SOG’ beat the ‘Cobra’ by a wide points decision to win the Super Six tournament after a heated build-up – it would be the only loss the Brit didn’t avenge.
Despite seemingly burying the hatchet in the immediate aftermath, the pair have since exchanged words on multiple occasions and a proposed rematch never occurred.
Back in January following the retirement of George Groves, Ward slammed Froch’s critical reaction, calling him ‘old and bitter.’ This sparked a fresh feud.
Froch continued: “You have to admire him for going through his career unbeaten, but he’s not an entertainer, and in an entertaining sport, it’s good to entertain. Andre Ward’s style is effective, but it’s boring.
“You’ll never rewatch a Ward fight. He fought the most feared man in boxing, Sergey Kovalev twice. Let’s be honest, he beat him with low blows in the end.

“Ward barely leaves his home country. He only came to England, because he knew I was in Spain. I could see him looking at my Instagram stories, he knew I was out of the country.
“It’s all history and I’m grateful to Ward, because he made me the animal I became to beat Lucian Bute.
