What Are The Cs Go Majors

The Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII - Katowice Major 2019 is the 14th Valve-sponsored Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship and the first Major of 2019. The tournament features a $1,000,000 USD prize pool and 24 teams as with previous Majors. It is also notably being held by ESL, whose last Major was in 2016. This event marks the start of the new Intel Grand Slam Season. The first two CS:GO Majors had one finalist in common- NiP. However, it was VP who became the CS:GO Major Winners in Katowice 2014. The notorious Polish roster stormed through the whole tournament only dropping a single map to LGB eSports in the semi-finals.

The First Major of 2020. 2019.12.11 - Today we’re excited to announce that the first CS:GO Major Championship of 2020 will take place in Rio de Janeiro! Hosted by ESL at Jeunesse Arena, the event will be CS:GO’s first Major in Brazil. In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the Major Championships are universally considered to be the most prestigious tournaments of the game. The Majors are big CS: GO tournaments that are sponsored.

Nothing is celebrated in the CS:GO calendar like the Majors are. They’re the tournaments that bring global attention to the game and the ones that tend to produce storylines and matches like nothing else.

The next CS:GO Major will be the PGL Major 2021, taking place in Stockholm, Sweden. This will be the sixteenth CS:GO Major to date after the Rio 2020 Major was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, and the third to be hosted in Sweden, a country rich with Counter-Strike talent.

The PGL Major commences on October 23, 2021 and concludes with a (hopefully) epic grand final on November 7, 2021. Here’s what the format of the next Major looks like:

  • New Challengers Stage (Date TBA)
  • New Legends Stage (Date TBA)
  • New Champions Stage (Date TBA)

The prize pool of the upcoming CS:GO Major is $2,000,000, and PGL say this will be the first Major to be broadcast in 4K at 60 frames per second.

Tickets are not yet available. We'll update this page with the link of where to find them when they are.

The last Major PGL hosted was in Kraków, Poland, where Gambit took the gold in a heroic underdog story. Astralis are the reigning Major champions, claiming victory at the StarLadder Berlin Major in September 2019.

When Is Csgo Major 2020

Majors

When we announced the Rio Major, we were excited to bring a CS:GO Major to one of Counter-Strike’s most passionate fan bases. At the time, we couldn’t have imagined the global challenges that have limited live events throughout 2020.

We’re not going to ask players and fans to risk their health in order to attend a Major while the pandemic still poses a threat to travelers. Therefore, we have made the painful decision to cancel the November Major.

So, what’s the plan? First, we’re going to hold off on scheduling Majors until, at a minimum, Regional Major Ranking (RMR) LAN events are safe to hold around the world. Until then, we expect to continue to hold online RMR events to keep track of the best teams in each region.

Coaching

Recently we’ve been made aware that several coaches of professional CS:GO teams exploited a bug in the game in order to gain an advantage over their opponents. It is unfortunate and frustrating that we did not respond to this bug sooner. But bugs are the reality of software—and until they are resolved, we need to be able to trust players and coaches.

We won’t spend much time here reiterating our stance on the importance of integrity in CS:GO matches. At a minimum, we expect that players and coaches will play by the rules, and immediately pause the match and alert tournament admins if they know of an issue that may give them (or an opponent) an unfair advantage.

Any teams that were disqualified for exploiting this bug during an RMR event will have their RMR points reset.

As for taking action against individual coaches, we’re going to wait until we get a complete picture of the extent of the bug abuse and the punishments handed down by third parties. Regardless of those penalties, mid-match coaching will always be a tempting opportunity for some teams to violate the integrity of the match. So we may also consider limitations to coaching.

We’re looking forward to getting LAN events started again, and hope that we can all find a safe way to do it soon.
